That Table Guy

Handmade tables built by That Table Guy — using barn wood older than your grandpa’s truck.

Why Our Tables?

Real Barn Wood.

Not Fake Rustic.

Built by Hand.

Made in Wisconsin.

Not a Factory.

( Featured Tables )

Every table we make starts with real reclaimed barn wood — the kind that’s seen more Wisconsin winters than we have. These boards, planks, and beams were pulled (by hand and by a lot of grunting) from old barns that have earned every ding, dent, and notch they’ve got. Those deep red tones? That’s sun, snow, and about 80 years of cows leaning on it. We don’t cover up that history — we show it off. Every table carries a piece of Wisconsin’s past into a new home, built by hand, built with pride, and built to handle just about anything. Each one’s got its own personality — some a little rough around the edges, just like the guy who built them. And when you bring one home, you’re not just getting a table — you’re getting a story that still smells faintly like sawdust and hard work.

The Cow Leaner

Named for what we suspect this beam’s main job used to be: supporting a 1,200-pound Holstein. Don’t worry, it’s all cleaned up now.

(Meet the Crew)

It takes a small (and slightly stubborn) village to turn reclaimed barn wood into tables, and lucky for us, our village comes with plenty of diet coke, jokes, and opinions about how straight a board should be. What started as one barn-teardown project turned into a family operation powered by sawdust, sarcasm, and Wisconsin grit.

Every board has its story — and so do we. From the guy who builds the tables to the one who stores the wood, sells the finished pieces, and makes sure the website actually works, this is the crew that keeps That Table Guy running (and laughing) every step of the way.

(Materials We Use)

You can’t fake real barn wood. (Well, you can, but we’ll notice — and we’ll quietly judge.) Every table we build starts with reclaimed boards, beams, and planks from barns across southern Wisconsin — wood that’s already lived a few lifetimes before it ever hit our saws. Each piece carries its own story: sun-faded color, nail holes from when things were built to stay built, and a patina that no stain could ever replicate. We clean it up, preserve its character, and turn it into tables that show off the beauty of age, weather, and honest work. Here are a few of our favorite kinds of wood to work with:

1.

Weathered Pine

Soft, sturdy, and full of character, this is the wood that held up haylofts and fences for generations. Its surface tells stories — grooves from pitchforks, knots from long-grown branches, and a pale warmth that glows once it’s sanded and sealed. Pine is the friendliest kind of wood: easy to work with, full of charm, and just a little unpredictable (like Dad).

2.

Red Oak

The show-off of the bunch — rich, reddish-brown tones that come from years of weather, wind, and good Wisconsin soil. It’s dense, dependable, and has a grain pattern that practically brags about how strong it is. If our tables had personalities, this would be the confident older brother who always gets things done and still has perfect hair.

3.

White Oak

Tough as nails (sometimes literally — we still pull a few out of it). White Oak is what barns were built with when farmers wanted something that would outlast them. The grain is tight, the texture solid, and once it’s finished, it has that timeless, golden glow that fits anywhere — farmhouse, modern home, or cozy cabin.

4.

Rustic Hemlock Oak

This one’s got a softer, weathered look — light tones, subtle streaks, and the kind of texture you can feel even after it’s been sanded smooth. It’s usually pulled from older support beams or siding that saw plenty of seasons. Hemlock is the quiet type — understated, durable, and perfect for people who like their “rustic” with a touch of refinement.

(Let’s Talk Tables)

We might build tables, but we’re really in the business of good conversations (and sawdust). Whether you’ve got a question about our tables, want to stop by the shop, scheduling a pick up or just feel like chatting about reclaimed barn wood — we’d love to hear from you.

We’re a small family crew here in Lake Mills, Wisconsin — no fancy showroom or call center, just real people doing what we love. With that in mind, give us a couple days to get back to you. And if you swing by, you will probably find Dad (That Table Guy himself) in the workshop, saw in hand, classic rock playing, and a story ready to go before you even say hello.

We don’t ship or deliver — everything’s local pickup only — but we promise the drive’s worth it. You’ll see the tables in person, feel the old barn wood, and maybe even hear about the time Uncle Jimmy swore he could lift a whole beam by himself.
